AMERICA’S MOON ROCKET

Get up close to a spectacle of human engineering and space travel, the Saturn V rocket. In the Apollo/Saturn V Center, walk beneath a real Saturn V rocket, the type of rocket that launched humans to the Moon. Take a stroll under this show-stopping giant and fully appreciate the size and complexity of the largest rocket ever flown through space. At 363 feet/111 meters long, it is 60 feet/18 meters taller than the Statue of Liberty! Although a total of 13 Saturn V rockets were launched between 1967 and 1972, this is one of only three remaining in the United States.

Exhibits alongside the rocket highlight its assembly and the more than 400,000 people who helped build the massive machine. Watch Apollo-era footage projected on the side of the vehicle and do not miss the daily guided tour through each of the three stages of the rocket.

  2021-06-30 SpaceX Transporter-2 SmallSat Rideshare
Posted by: Todd - 12-16-2022, 09:55 PM - Forum: Mission Histories - Replies (37)

From the SpaceX website:

On Wednesday, June 30 at 3:31 p.m. EDT, Falcon 9 launched the Transporter-2, SpaceX’s second dedicated SmallSat Rideshare Program mission, from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The mission also marked SpaceX’s second launch to a polar orbit from Florida. This was the eighth launch and landing of this Falcon 9 first stage booster in exactly one year, including launch of GPS III Space Vehicle 03, Turksat 5A, and five Starlink missions. Following stage separation, SpaceX landed Falcon 9’s first stage on Landing Zone 1 (LZ-1) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

On board this launch were 85 commercial and government spacecraft (including CubeSats, microsats, and orbital transfer vehicles) and 3 Starlink satellites. While there were fewer spacecraft on board compared to Transporter-1, this mission launched more mass to orbit for SpaceX’s customers.

  Ideas for Discussion Sections?
Posted by: Todd - 12-15-2022, 08:07 PM - Forum: Random Discussions - Replies (9)

We're deciding what pages or sections we should create on this board, so please comment below with your ideas!  Some of the discussion areas we have been asked for already include:

 - Names and types of various rockets and engines
 - Great people that have worked in space exploration
 - Would you go to space?
 - Names and locations of universities that are known to have a great space program
 - Model rocket reviews and videos of people launching them

These are just a few of many.  What are your ideas you would like to see on this website?

What better first topic to launch a new community than the name of one of the greatest and most controversial icons in rocketry today, Elon Musk?

Say what you will, but I believe Elon is one of the greatest thinkers of our generation.  I'd love to hear what you think!  And please remember, this is a kid-friendly community so let's keep it respectful, please.

Let the conversation begin!
